A few wonderful BEEPS directors and dedicated volunteers conducted our annual attic cleanout on January 27th, 2025 to tidy up the place for our bats when return in the spring.
The guano was swept up and collected. Some of it will be sent to test for the presence of White Nose Syndrome.
Any dead bats were carefully collected, and data on their age and location in the attic written down.
In any year, some number of mortalities are to be expected but by comparing numbers from year to year, BEEPS can track any changes in the health of the colony.
Special thanks to the Peachland Fire Department for volunteering their time to give BEEPS access to the attic, and species at risk biologist Tanya Luszcz and stewardship ecologist Paula De la Vega for their expertise.
