Our busy directors are passionate about bats and willingly donate their time to developing and delivering programs, events, and activities aimed to educate people of all ages about the importance of protecting and preserving the bats in Peachland, Canada, and around the world. Working with researchers, other community groups, volunteers, and vendors we share and develop new ideas, surpass new challenges, and contribute to the community while we learn, and celebrate successful conservation and other achievements. I guess you could say we all have a “bat” attitude.

Emma Gaudreault – President
My name is Emma Gaudreault. I have been a Board member with BEEPS since 2023 and have been the president of BEEPS since 2024. I have a BSc from UBC Okanagan in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and a Masters in Biology from the University of Ottawa. My passion is ecology and finding solutions for humans to coexist with nature. BEEPS has allowed me to use my skills and passion to educate people about the importance of bats and to work on projects that protect and improve bat habitat. It has been truly inspiring to see the community come together to protect and celebrate the bats that make Peachland.

Tyra Lewis – Secretary
Hi, I’m Tyra and my journey with BEEPS began in 2021, when I worked as a summer student and I loved it so much that I later joined the board. My passion for the outdoors brought me to Kelowna, where I am currently completing a BSc in Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Biology at UBCO. While I am fascinated by all the interconnected parts that make up our ecosystems, bats quickly stole my heart. They are often misunderstood and unfairly feared, despite being a vital part of our environment. Through my work with BEEPS, I get to help change these perceptions and share just how important these remarkable little creatures are!

Rachel Truant – Director
Hi, I’m Rachel and I’ve been with BEEPS since 2017! I have a background in youth work and education and love the part of this work that allows me to share my favourite bat facts! Speaking of, my favourite thing about our bats in Peachland is their super hearts. When bats are in hibernation their heart rate is as low as 5 beats per minute and when they are flying it is as high as 1000 beats per minute! As a volunteer with BEEPS, I am grateful for what I have learned about bats and the people I have met along the way.

Issy Jackson – Director
Hello! My name is Issy Jackson! I am a Zoology student at UBCO and I joined the BEEPS board in 2026 after working as their summer student. Working with BEEPS really cemented my love for bats as they are essential for our ecosystem! I am so excited to have the opportunity to learn more and educate others about these cute little mammals!
