TOTA – Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association in conjunction with BC Community Bat Program have launched a new initiative “Enjoy the Battiness” to foster better understanding of our high flying, mammal friends. Accommodation providers and tourists are encouraged to learn about and welcome these voracious insectivores to keep outdoor evening activities “bug free”. Also, their nightly foraging contributes to natural, non-toxic insect control for agriculture. Our local wineries use composted bat guano to fertilize grape vines. So what’s not to love?
